OUR STORY

How It Started

It started with something we kept running into ourselves: women over a certain age were so often treated as an afterthought by fashion. Walk into most stores and you'd find two options: shapeless and 'sensible', or cut for someone half your age, with barely a sleeve in sight and never a thought given to a body that had actually lived a little. In 2010, we opened our first shopfront on Parnell's village strip in Auckland, a narrow space with a single clothing rail, a hand-painted sign, and a fitting room curtain we sewed ourselves. We started with twelve pieces, mostly linen and cotton, sourced from a small supplier in the Waikato who understood natural fibres the way we did. Our first customer was a woman who came in looking for a cardigan for her daughter's wedding and left with three, because for the first time in years, something actually fit the way it was meant to. She told her sister. Her sister told her book club. Within a year, we knew every regular by name, their sizes, their favourite colours, and usually what was happening in their lives that week. That word of mouth carried us for nearly five years before we ever sold a single item online.

Our Mission

Sixteen years on, that same idea still runs everything we do, just at a much larger scale. We now work with a small handful of trusted fabric partners across New Zealand and Australia, chosen because they share our obsession with natural, breathable fibres: linen, cotton, merino, bamboo. Every piece that reaches our shelves has gone through the same test we used on day one: would this flatter a real woman, in a real body, going about a real life? That means cuts that skim rather than cling, sleeves that actually cover the upper arm instead of ignoring it, necklines that sit where they're meant to, and fabric that breathes when the day gets warm. We size honestly, up to a 24, and we write our own size guides from real garment measurements, not guesswork, because we know exactly how much trust is lost the moment something doesn't fit as promised. Behind the scenes, our small Auckland-based team still personally checks fit and fabric feel before anything is added to the range, the same way it was checked on that first rail in Parnell.

Our Future

What began on a single rail with twelve pieces has grown into a wardrobe trusted by more than 30,000 women across New Zealand, with a warehouse in Auckland, a small and growing team, and a partnership with NZ Post that gets orders out fast and reliably, island to island. But growth has never meant losing the parts that mattered from the start: the honest sizing, the handwritten thank-you notes that still go out with certain orders, the real conversations with customers who write in asking whether a dress will suit their shape before they buy. As we look ahead, our focus stays exactly where it began, on fit, fabric and care, just extended to reach more of the women who've spent too long feeling overlooked by the shops around them. Auckland will always be home. Our goal is simple: to be the store more New Zealand women turn to first, and trust for years to come.
